I've been planning to rebuild my PFS ranger into a wood-bender. Aside from being the most ranger-y subclass, I like that it has a good mix of damage, defense, healing, and I think even some crowd control. I also doubt that "wood damage" is likely to be resisted. I'm not crazy about how much of the damage is Bleed (not all creatures bleed), but you win some, you lose some. I might look at picking up a second element down the road, we'll see.
I think I saw that the wood blasts do bludgeoning damage? "Bam, a log to your midsection sucka!" Although it would be cool if "wood" were a damage type. Like, what monsters might have weakness to wood? Maybe vampires?! (There are a lot of inappropriate jokes about harpies and succubi that I refuse to make here.)
One hidden benefit of doing Bleed damage is it can contribute to creature identification without spending an action to Recall Knowledge. "You notice that none of your Bleed damage seems to affect the shambling humanoid creature." Hmmmmmm ... [zombie emoji]
